Howard graduated from UCL Dental School in 1989. He worked in junior hospital posts in oral surgery and oral medicine before moving into restorative dentistry, spending three years training as a registrar at Cardiff Dental Hospital and the Eastman Dental Hospital, London. Following on from this he undertook an MSc in endodontics, graduating with distinction, and entered full-time endodontic practice with Tony Hoskinson in 1996. He was admitted to the General Dental Council specialist list in endodontics in 1998, and started his own referral practice in Maidenhead, Berkshire as a squat in September 2000. He has worked at 152 Harley Street since 2009.

He has been a part-time teacher in clinical endodontics at the Eastman Dental Institute and has run practical courses for general practitioners around the UK.

He has also been an invited speaker at a number of national and international endodontic meetings. He has had a number of roles on the Council of the British Endodontic Society and was President in 2010. He is a member of The British Endodontic Society, The British Society for Restorative Dentistry, The American Association of Endodontics, The International Association of Dento-Maxillo-Facial Radiology and The International Association of Dental Traumatology. He is a certified member of the European Society of Endodontology.

He lives in Hackney with his young family.

- where were we, where are we, and where are we headed?

This talk will review some of the past techniques and problems with endodontic procedures, what is now currently recommended, and will look to the the (hopefully bright) future. Reference will be made to some of the recent literature in endodontics and some clinical problems will be discussed.
